Disaster struck the island of Haiti when an earthquake of 7.2 magnitude shocked all on Saturday morning on August 12, 2021. The quake struck 7 miles deep and 5 miles from the town of Petit Trou de Nippes which was the epicenter of the quake which is west of Port-au-Prince the capital by 80 miles. A group of us from across Palm Beach County decided to do something together to help. We are Palm Beach County Cares.
Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency said that at least 1,297 people had been confirmed dead. Two cities, Les Cayes and Jeremie, located in Haiti’s southern peninsula, have reported major devastation with people caught under rubble and buildings collapsed. Many people lost everything. Many desperately need supplies, food, and more. We are a growing group of citizens, Democrats and Republicans, business owners, and concerned citizens of Palm Beach County, all coming together to help. With a groundswell of support, Palm Beach County Cares has taken a strong stand for our Haitian Neighbors.
No person is an island. We believe we must help each other cope when disaster strikes. We are a unifying force for good. Haitans need a disaster recovery plan. Thank you for joining hands with us to do just that. Every gift counts. Every item makes a difference to those who have lost or left behind everything. Please do what you can, volunteer, donate, start a collection.
Thank you Palm Beach County!
